Lycus

Overview

Lycus is one of the more diverse planets within the Solara System, having many environments with creatures for the primary inhabitants, referred to as Lycanids (A Lycanthropic offshoot of Wolvians). The population are nearly identical in abilities to Wolvians; however, they are born with biological lycanthropy. Most writings on Lycus focus on the plethora of plains and forests on the continent of Venaris, though some documentation of the biome diversity of the planet has been made by the small number of people who have survived their time on Abutoran.

The Land is primarily formedof two giant continents divided by seas, these continents have wildly different climates and have a slight cultural divide between them, with Abutoran Lycanids being far more violent. Both continents have vastly different wildlife, making the process of hunting unique for the different types of Lycanids.

Fauna

The fauna on Lycus is very diverse, containing a mix of creatures from different realms alongside unique creatures to Lycus. Lycanids, a race similar to Wolvians, are the dominant species of Lycus. Some of the species that Ranger Wisteria has birthed have been given a place on Lycus, including a number of Giant Reinwolves and Vinewolves. Several prey animals also exist on Lycus to allow for the planet to allow for the planet to be one of the best hunting grounds.

Lycanids

The dominant species of Lycus, they mostly look identical to Wolvians, though typically look more feral. As a species, they are primarily defined by their innate lycanthropy which exists on a biological level. Lycanids hunt in packs and will either eat or capture their prey. If a person is somehow brought to Lycus, the hunt will almost always end with the person captured and not eaten, though a small number of people have managed to escape before being captured. Lycanids generally spend more time in their Lycanthropic form, as it is more efficient for hunting.

Several subspecies of Lycanid exist, with Forest and Snow Lycanids generally coming from Venaris, while Abutoran is home to mostly Mountain and Desert Lycanids. Lycanid types can be distinguished mostly by their fur colour and thickness, along with their size.

Giant Reinwolves

A type of wolf created by Ranger in the Charmwood Forest, the branch of the species on Lycus are less capable of being tamed and are one of the more notable threats to Lycanids that encroach on their territory. Most Giant Reinwolves live in the north of Venaris, although rumours suggest that some Giant Reinwolves have made their home in the mountains of Abutoran.

Vinewolves

Another species created by Ranger, Vinewolves are a hybrid species of a type of vine and a wolf. Vinewolves are notoriously dangerous due to their ability to immobilise their prey, though are especially vulnerable to fire and will flee at the sight of it. Vinewolves have only ever been seen on the continent of Venaris.

Solar Bears

This species of bear is empowered by Solar Mana, they have golden fur and can emit a faint golden light. When threatened they may releast bursts of Solar Magic to burn any nearby creatures, though this has a tendency to exhaust them and does not have the largest range. Solar Bears are known to actively hunt lone Lycanids. Solar Bears are not pack animals, thus can be easily overwhelmed by larger groups of Lycanids. Solar Bears primarily live in the southern regions of Venaris.

Moon Elks

A species birthed by Ranger, they are one of the most common types of large prey for Lycanid packs. Moon Elks can protect themselves with veils of Lunar Magic, but are very weak offensively and would need to be in a large group to repel even a lone Lycanid. They are particularly fast, allowing them to escape Lycanids; although, Lycanids often relish the challenge of hunting this species.

Continents

Venaris

A continent primarily made up of open plains or forest regions. The northern tip of the continent has longer nights and is covered by thick snow, while the southernmost regions are warmer. This continent is considered the safer of the two as the environments make it easier for more advanced species to find safer hiding spots from the Lycanids. Venaris is a northern continent that connects to the north pole of Lycus from a relatively small point at the northern reaches of the continent.

Abutoran

The more dangerous of the two continents, Abutoran's south is mountainous and difficult to traverse for unwary travellers, while the northern stretches of Abutoran consist of blistering deserts and arid savannahs, a region of jungle exists towards the northeast of the continent. The region is harder to hide in and has significantly more dangerous terrain. Lycanids from Abutoran are often more violent than their Venarian counterparts, being known to capture people who end up on Lycus, using them for fun or breeding until they break. Abutoran stretches across part of Lycus' equator, with the southern regions beginning to stretch to a more distant southern point.

Islands

Several smaller islands are scattered throughout the oceans of Lycus, often inhabited by only one or two packs of Lycanids. Not much is known about these islands as very few people have visited them and returned.
