Overview

Black Lily and White Rose are divine artefacts containing the souls of Lily Grimm and Ryder. Due to the swords being sentient, they are not as directly held or protected by any deities. Black Lily is technically considered an artefact of Light AND Lily, while White Rose is technically considered an artefact of Terra AND Ryder. Light is more often viewed as a guardian of both swords. Black Lily typically takes the form of a tanto, while White Rose typically appears as a xiphos, as shown in the images.

Each sword is connected to a concept derived from those which are represented by Light and Terra. Black Lily represents the concept of corruption, typically viewed as a force of destruction. White Rose represents the concept of purity, typically represented as a force of healing. Many times throughout history, these aspects have been misrepresented to suit the agenda of individuals, a true understanding of both concepts requires an understanding that all souls can be considered "corrupted" in that everyone has impurities which help to shape them, while purity must be viewed as both a force of healing AND a force of destruction, and thus is often not something to strive towards completely.

The Twin Blades have a somewhat unique property when compared to many other divine artefacts in that they are capable of combining to form a third, more powerful artefact. The combined form is referred to as Silver Amaranth and takes the form of a Wakizashi or Scythe depending on the situation. The combined form is more powerful than either blade when split, it also does not over-purify or corrupt the wielders soul as these effects cancel out, it is still incredibly taxing to wield the blade in this form and would not be possible for more than even a few minutes unless the wielder is a close descendant of a divine bloodline (within a very small number of generations).

Powers

Sentience -

  • Both White Rose and Black Lily are fully sentient and are able to communicate with the wielder.

Extra Senses -

  • A wielder of Black Lily is able to share in Lily's Mana Sight, giving them the ability to sense Mana.
  • A wielder of White Rose is able to share in Ryder's Emotion Sense, allowing them to perceive the emotional states of those around them.

Enhanced Abilities -

  • Black Lily empowers the Necromantic abilities of the wielder. The sword can also convert water into Black Ice, meaning a wielder who has access to the Water Gate but not the Dark Gate can create Black Ice through the sword.
  • White Rose empowers the Healing magic of the wielder. The sword is also capable of turning any fire into White Flames, allowing a wielder to create White Flames with only access to the Fire Gate by using the sword.

Drawbacks -

  • Extended use of Black Lily causes the users soul to become corrupted, withering away until the wielder is left as nothing more than a warped husk which must feast on Soul Matter or else fade into nothingness

*Extended use of White Rose burns away any and all impurities in the users soul until the soul can no longer remain in one piece, splintering or even fading to nothingness.
